Our habits are patterns that we learn. We can have habits that are completely unconscious to us as well as habits that we form and practice on a daily basis. We can implement more intentional practices into our daily lives that also allow us to be aware of our unconscious habits and shift them into more conscious patterns and choices.
Ultimately, the experience of habitual patterns is all up to us. Yes, shifting out of heavily ingrained habits we have learned from earlier on in our lives can take time, patience, and perseverance. However, it is that journey that gives us access to a more elevated and joyful life. I have found nothing more exciting in my own life than the experience of becoming aware of habits that have dictated by existence and left me feeling small to practicing new thought patterns and action-oriented daily choices to shift those beliefs and habits into new ways of life, perspective, and existence.
It is an internal process as well as an external one. Who we are is ultimately defined by the habits we become. If our habits are not aligning in the direction we are desiring to go, then we are setting ourselves up for failure. I like to think of habits as a roadmap to success. Every day showing up in those habits is like taking a drive to a desired destination. The only way to get to that destination is to keep on moving forward and driving. Our habits are the fuel that get us there.
So, how do we go about changing habits in our lives to align with where we want to go?
First, it is important to become clear on where we are wanting to head. Is it towards a new career? A new mindset? A new internal dialogue that supports us? A project? A healthier body? What exactly are we wanting to achieve?
Once we have discovered what our goal is then we can hold that intention in our hearts and minds each day and begin to reflect on what thoughts/mindsets, daily action patterns we are doing, how we are moving through our day, etc. Are supporting that goal and which ones are distracting and diminishing it? Write it down and have a copy of it. Look at it regularly... often times we try to hold it all in our minds but sometimes those awarenesses can flutter by us without us catching them and truly recognizing them. The act of writing those awarenesses down can help us mark something in our consciousness. It can then be something we pay more attention to in our everyday life because we have given it the space to let it be seen.
Once we have begun writing down our list and better understanding what is supporting us and what is delaying us, we can then take action to restore our daily walk of intention. Laying down the habits and foundations that are most supportive to our desire and goal.
Reality is, that nothing happens overnight. At least nothing big enough to really obtain for longer periods of time. When we consider habit shifts, we have to consider lifestyle shifts. It is not just our habits and patterns we are affecting but the entirety of how we live, how we show up, and who we are in those moments and are choosing to become. Through this we can take power over our lives and existence and truly become the creators we are all destined to be.
In many ways, this is how manifestation works. It isn't just setting intentions, but we have to consider the way energy moves. It is like building blocks being placed together to propel us in a direction. Our thoughts, our actions, our intentions, and emotions matter. They are the energy life force that give direction and fuel to what is unfolding and will continue to unfold and manifest for us in our lives. So, it is important that we set goals for the long run that align and are held regularly in mindful intention.
We must begin to hold that intention so clearly that we choose it in our everyday life through our actions, choices, and even internal dialogue. As we do this we become the living prayer in action and life begins to bless us and manifest at our feet.
So, be clear in your intention.
Walk daily in prayer through conscious habitual patterns you choose.
Rewrite the narratives that are diminishing your free will and holding you back.
Love yourself each present moment by making conscious choices and movements.
Blessings medicine family!
