About the Facilitator
My name is Angela and I am going to tell you a bit about my story and how I came into this work as a kambo facilitator and space holder. Now I am not going to cut my story short as I want to share as openly as I can to give you the opportunity to dive a bit into my journey where you feel is appropriate. One of the most important things for me when I work with someone in the medicine world is transparency. I want to have security around why and how I can trust my facilitator to take me on a journey within myself.
I have worked with many medicine men and women over the years. Some I would call shaman and others just medicine men/women and other simply space holders. In my opinion, there is a difference; and in today's day and age where so many are classifying themselves as "shaman" without an understanding of what this truly means, I like to be careful of those types of identities. I also believe it to be so important to really take the time to connect with our facilitators to ensure that who we are working with is truly right for us.
I do not associate myself with the world shaman nor do I call myself this, ever. I believe that word to come from indigineous roots and only those who were born into this work from many generations capable of holding that title.
I consider myself a Kambo practitioner, space holder, kundalini yoga teacher, massage therapist, pioneer, artist, and energy worker. I will sometimes use the term "medicine woman" simply because it is more easily associated for some on what kind of work I actually do. It's easier than the large amounts of words I am about to use here.
So, with that said, I am going to take you on a bit of a journey with me. This will be my story with plant medicines and Kambo. I will give you a peek into my world. I share my story because I recognize that I may not be the facilitator for everyone and that is okay. I am sure there are others out there you will resonate with. And for those who do feel resonation towards me, let's share in our journeys together.
I have been on this path since I was 23. I had no idea this type of work existed really. I had explored things like magic mushrooms and LSD but I had no idea the depth these types of experiences could take you until ceremonial medicine work came into my life. At 23 I began traveling the world. Prior to that I had started Thirdeye Indigo. This was my first small business I started. I have been an artist at my core and began creating and painting as long as I can remember. However, I was never truly fulfilled through my art alone. At least not in the capacity that Thirdeye Indigo (my small business) was taking me. I had a strong calling to travel the world and move into territories farther out of my comfort zone. Somewhere in me I knew there was more to life.
Someone asked me one day, "If you could truly be doing anything with your life, what would it be?" I immediately realized it was traveling.
I started saving money on the side and my life opened. A few months later I found myself in California (originally from Utah). In California I began to build community and connections that expanded my reality. They gave me peaks into medicine work, real psychics in the world, and true energy healers they had worked with and spoken to.
Now mind you, right before I left Utah I had been certified to level 3 Reiki as well as went to massage school. I have always had a passion for the body, natural medicines, and the discovery of personal truth.
My time in California opened doors and I soon went to Thailand for my first time. I did my first cleanse in Thailand. A lot began to open up for me and I soon found myself in Koh Phangan, Thailand for the first time. It is here I met the frog (Kambo) as well as Ayahuasca for the first times. During my 2 months in Thailand I sat with Kambo 2 times and Ayahuasca 3 times. It really shifted everything for me. For me, this is when I felt a new life begin for me and nothing has been the same since.
Prior to this new awakening and life I had struggled in my past with self harm, suicidal thoughts, depression, anger towards family, bulimia in my teen years, and lots of self abuse. I lived many years in darker places. I had challenges growing up which I won't go into because I mostly want to focus on my journey with medicines. However, I share this bit to give some perspective on the life I was living before these medicines came into my life. Plant medicine and Kambo helped me build an entirely new relationship with myself and with my life. It cast light on things within myself I wasn't entirely aware of before which gave me the opportunity to shift some things in my habits, my thought patterns, and my lifestyle.
After Thailand I came back to the states where I spent 4 months living in Utah again. This is where I was then connected with another community working with Peyote. I began working with the Native American Church (ONAC). This work gave me insight into the deeper disconnections I actually had from my body. I realized I wasn't actually existing in my body and was very ungrounded within myself.
Soon after I moved back to California and then began working with ayahuasca once again. This heightened my realizations around how ungrounded I was. It also took me on journeys within myself and my own mind where I began to recognize how mean I had been being towards myself. Light was cast on my internal self talk and I began to realize just how deep my inner saboteur goes.
There is so much more I could say on EVERYTHING I am sharing here but most of that you can actually find on my personal instagram page @rainbow_medicina I have been very open about my journey all these years. I have share many insights, stories, and evolutions with my community openly. If you feel called, you can find more there.
My time with peyote inspired me on a journey to heal my relationship with my body and learn how to ground, centre, and better empower myself. I was determined to learn how to navigate my own life and energy more fully. So the next chapter of my life unfolded from there.
Right after some really challenging ayahuasca ceremonies in California I made the choice to go to India. I paid for a Kundalini yoga training and found myself in India for nearly 6 months. I mostly studied Kundalini yoga but also found myself surrounded by more like minded people living life in a more connected way than I had been introduced to before. This is also when I was introduced to Bufo for the first time (toad medicine). My life in India was a ceremony in and of itself. I did a 200 hour YTT living in an ashram type setting. We wore all white, head coverings, 2 and a half hour sadhanas, kundalini yoga 2-3 times a day, cold showers in the mornings, and diving into Kundalini yoga teachings in every aspect. After I left my training I was practicing kundalini yoga 2 times a day and also did a 30 day fruit fast along with it. I met many other Kundalini yogis but also met an important teacher to me who I did a retreat with and then invited me to live in Koh Phangan, Thailand with her and open up a Kundalini yoga community there.
Kundalini yoga was and has continued to be an incredible tool that has helped me integrate, learn about myself, and fully root myself and energy into my body. It has been a huge support along with plant medicine and kambo to supporting me in expanding and growing. It has helped me to strengthen my nervous system, find my center, as well as get more in touch with my intuition and spirit. Kundalini yoga is a practice of bringing the subconscious to the conscious and strengthening the spirit as it roots into the body.
I went back to the states for 4 months after this where I began to save money for my next adventure to Thailand to help open this community. In those 4 months I began to work with Kambo again as well as continue practicing kundalini yoga every day. I also continued wearing all white and exploring all kundalini had to teach me. Staying more strict with it's teachings because I am a firm believer in if you are going to do something then do it all the way.
Right before I left for Thailand I ran into a woman who I served me Kambo. As I was sitting in front of me she asks me, "Have you ever considered yourself to be a medicine woman?" In all honesty I was shocked. She then says to me, "I feel like you should be serving Kambo." Again this was a lot for me to digest.
I went home after this along with an invite to study kambo further, do a kambo dieta, and get trained in how to serve myself kambo as well as others.
After really sitting with this and also reaching out to a then trusted ayahuascero from Brazil I had been working with. I really sat with this reality and commitment for my life. I made the decision to do the kambo dieta.
We had an all women's group during our kambo dieta and initiation.
Now let me say as a precursor, what I will share next is NOT for everyone. It can actually be quite dangerous for some people in certain circumstances. However, this is my story and how it happened. This is how I learned to work with the frog.
We water fasted on Mt. Shasta for 5 days. Along with water fasting we were working with kambo every day: once in the morning and once in the evening. Through the process we were served the medicine, served ourselves the medicine on many occassions, and also served others. We were taught different protocols and ways and techniques. Ultimately, this particular dieta gave me the confidence to begin working with kambo for myself.
From there I left this training and was working with kambo once a week. I began the journey of really going to make places and depths with kambo. Recognizing that in order to hold space for others I needed to really get to know the medicine as much as I possibly could. So I sat with kambo once a week for sometime and then eventually began working with it once a month.
Alongside this I also did another ayahuasca ceremony in my home state, Utah. Where I connected to the land and began the journey of more deeply connecting to the plants as well as my own ancestors and lineage. That ceremony was for next chapter to Thailand as well as working with kambo. That ceremony opened up a lot along with many blessings to continue my studies and journey.
After this ceremony in Utah I was asked by the medicine man from Brazil I had been working with those years prior if I was interested in studying under him. This opened up a whole other door I wasn't quite ready for... but will come into play later. Keep reading.
I moved to Thailand. I helped open up the Kundalini Yoga community which also became a Kundalini Yoga and Kambo medicine community. Here I continued my personal studies sitting with kambo frequently. I was teaching kundalini yoga every other day as well as taking kundalini yoga classes every day. I began to offer hape' and sananga circles. I did a lot of one on one sessions to begin with and then eventually started working with groups.
I was still continuing my personal studies. Working with kambo frequently as well as working with sananga and hape' every day alongside kundalini yoga.
My time in Thailand was a great initiation for me. I learned how to hold space for others, lead a group, teach classes, be a leader in community, and create retreats and workshops.
After some months in Thailand I began to also offer kambo sessions when I felt ready. I once again offered one on one sessions but eventually began to work with groups as well. My work began to blow up very quickly and I was working with many individuals from all over the world seeking the spaces I was offering. I learned a lot in this time. We were doing kambo ceremonies once a week for awhile and eventually multiple times a week.
I was also still continuing my self studies. I also was was still sitting in personal ceremonies facilitated by other qualified medicine men/women and integrating through my practices with kundalini yoga.
I also offered my first Kambo and Yoga retreat with a dear kambo sistar I did my kambo dieta with. This was our first every retreat which inspired the very retreats I offer today!
I lived in Thailand for almost a year. I then began to feel a call to come back to the states where I was then ready to accept the offer from the medicine man from Brazil who asked me if I was interested in studying under him. I came back to the states and I did that.
I lived with him and 2 others in a medicine house. What this means is a house open to the community for ceremonies, energy work, kambo sessions, etc. We were working with ayahuasca, kambo, cacao, wachuma, sweatlodges, changa, sananga, hape', and more. During this time I was a helper, so to speak. I was in charge of cleaning purge buckets, smudging the space, space holding during ceremonies, and singing songs. I learned some medicine songs during this time, also did a lot of healing surrounding my own connections to my lineage and ancestors, and so much more it's hard to put into words. We also traveled to different places offering ceremonies as well as had retreats happening at our location.
I offered my first kambo and kundalini yoga immersion retreat here at this medicine house. It continued the evolution of what I offer in these experiences today.
After 3 months in this medicine house/community we traveled down to Peru where I sat with plant medicines as well as was introduced to the Shipibo lineage of working with master plants. I also met my romantic partner right before this who went with us to Peru. We sat in ceremonies down there which opened up another evolution of medicine work.
When I got back to the states I moved in with my beloved finally beginning to root more into a home. This is where I began to then offer kambo and kundalini yoga immersion retreats as well as traveled to offer them in other places across the states. We also went down to Peru in 2021 and did a master plant dieta with the shipibo teacher and his wife we met.
I was then introduced to Chuchuwasi a master plant teacher I worked with very closely in dieta. This master plant works with the womb, the blood, the bones, and the strengthening of the body and system. I was told it was an important plant for those who hold space in ceremonial ways. To offer me further guidance and support in my work with kambo. We did 10 days down there in dieta.
I wont go into all the details with my Chuchuwasi dieta however it was a profound experience of meeting a plant for the first time. Really meeting the spirit of that plant and learning through the plants themselves in a very special way. This plant showed and taught me a lot about myself which I continue to practice today. We were also working with ayahuasca every other day. We did our dieta traditional shipibo style so no salts, bland meals for detoxing, no communication or eye contact with others, in a hut in the jungle with yourself and no distractions, and working with your master plant teacher every day through dreams, visions, feelings, and in ceremony.
When I got back to the states I began integrating the teachings of Chuchuwasi. Focusing on healing my body further through exercise and further dietary shifts. My journey then lead me to bufo once again along with yopo. I worked with these teachers which took me into deeper places that coincided with my dieta with chuchuwasi. Showing me where to go next on my journey and how to open up healing now not just for myself but for other in relation to those who had hurt me. Offering me steps towards compassion and forgiveness.
After this I took a year off from all medicine work (2022). I focused on my integration completely. I rested A LOT. I was also traveling as well. I went to Guatemala where I met a beautiful community: The Mystical Yoga Farm around Lake Atitlan.
At the end of 2022 I went back to Guatemala a second time after I had invested money there becoming a Community Member. This community is medicine community, yoga community, sustainable living community teaching others about sustainable living, and so much more. During my stay there I helped co-facilitate 2 wachuma ceremonies. The first one being on New Years night. A beautiful symbolism into 2023.
And now here we are today. Alongside this I have had kambo along my side. This medicine has become so much apart of who I am and the way I live my life. It is a constant reminder to be the best I can be and to show up in the world as reflection of it's teachings. Kambo has been a foundational aspect of my journey and it has been a great honor to have served this medicine in so many communities across the globe and United States.
The retreats I offer are a direct reflection of my journey and how I have worked with this medicine for many years now. I take others on journeys within themselves to places I have been and in the ways I have been lead and experienced it. It has been one of the greatest gifts of my life. I will continue to study with kambo alongside other master plants. And as I evolve and learn I trust my work will continue to do so as well.
MORE ABOUT OUR RETREATS
Our Kambo and Kundalini Yoga Immersion Retreats on a fusion of Eastern and Amazonian traditions that Angela has been studying for the past 6 years. Her journey and training with Kundalini Yoga while in India as well as her initiations with both Kambo and plant medicines is what has brought to life this unique retreat experience. She has studied alongside indigenous peoples of the jungle and learned from some of the best Kundalini yoga teachers in the world on her own self journey to now bring you this Retreat she has been offering across the world the past 5 years.
This retreat is a journey within ourselves and the opportunity to connect to our bodies as well as our spirits, energy, and truths. It is the opportunity to clear away much of the fog and gunk that has distracted us from connecting to ourselves and world around on a pure level.
Kambo is a natural medicine from the Amazon that helps the body to purge much of the toxins, blocks, dense energies, and emotional build up that has us feeling heavy, possibly sick, disconnected, and out of alignment. It clears the body on a physical level, clears the heavy emotions we have been possibly suppressing for years, rebalance the energy back to a higher vibrational frequency, and reconnects us to our spirits and what it means to really feel good. Kundalini yoga also teaches us how to feel the way energy moves through us, how to wake ourselves back up, and how to reconnect with our power and truths.
Together Kundalini Yoga and Kambo help us on all aspects: physically, mentally, emotionally, energetically, and spiritually.
